So one of the nice things about blogging is that once in a while (or… whenever you want really), you can use your blog as a venting soapbox.
Today’s topic is taxes.
Actually, you could probably scroll back and there are one to two venting posts every single year.
I don’t mind paying taxes. Actually, I’m one of those wild liberals who would actually be willing to pay some more taxes for some universal benefits for everyone that I don’t even need because I am managing to get by.
Though the fact that we don’t have universal healthcare is really just the dumbest… rant for another day.
Back to taxes.
What angers me is how complicated it is just to pay them.
What triggered today’s rant? Well, I’ve been using QuickBooks this past year since I was fully self-employed and they just jacked up the price on me from $12/month to $25/month.
Now, after I sort out the nightmare that is my 2019 taxes, I will be canceling the heck out of that subscription because I haven’t found it to be $400 better than just a well organized Excel sheet.
And another thing about taxes that angered me this month was when TurboTax freaked out again while I was inputting my bazillion weird tax forms and perpetually shuttling me up to a higher fee bracket each time I added a new one.
Also, back to more QuickBooks anger – I was really conservative about my deductions, actually, probably too conservative, and didn’t enter any of my retirement account contributions, and QuickBooks still calculated all my quarterly tax payments too low. So thanks for that, QuickBooks.
It just seems like there are far too many questions and loopholes.
I want to enter the full amount I made this year, the taxes I already paid, and be told how much I still have to pay or I should get back.
There is literally no end to my anger over the unnecessary complications that are U.S. taxes.
Thank you for coming to today’s rant.
LOL. Taxes make us all rant! I actually wound up going with a company called TruPoint this year and I’m going to write a review about it soon. I think TurboTax is probably still fine with me for simple years (as if I ever really have a simple year :oP) but with all the extra things I had to do this year, TruPoint was totally worth it to me AND super easy.
