It’s been a while since we featured a podcast over here on brokeGIRLrich and today I’m excited to feature a new one by my pal Jessica who blogs over at Mo’ Money Mo’ Houses.
Since we’ve already established that my van days are over for a few months, you guys just get my opinion today but, ya know, that’s kinda the norm for the blog anyway ;o)
One thing that stood out immediately was that I really liked the tone of Jessica’s voice, which is a major influencer for me as to whether or not I’m going to subscribe. I also like the length – roughly 20 minutes each, which works well with my totally not diagnosed ADD.
Episode 1: My Personal Finance Journey was all about Jessica’s personal money story. She talks about growing up in a family without much money to spare and how she’s made good money decisions throughout her life because of that initial money consciousness.
I love what a boot-strapper Jessica is. I also totally agree with her multiple streams of income mindset. And we all know I have a soft spot for anyone with an arts degree – whether or not it’s what they wind up doing for a living.
Episode 2: The Truth About Freelancing is Jessica’s second episode where she talks about a freelancer she’s pretty attached to – her husband. It’s interesting to me that Jessica personally has no interest in being a freelancer, but she’s married to one!
I thought it was really interesting to hear their differing takes on whether freedom or security trumps their priorities, since it seems to be different for each. Personally, I think I fall much farther on the freedom side of the spectrum and definitely always feel the pull to be a freelancer –whether it’s in stage management or blogging.
Episode 3: The Shopping Ban features another blogger, Cait from Blonde on a Budget. Shopaholic stories are always fascinating to me, because I’ve never been one. It’s such a foreign concept to me. All of my debt came from school.
I really can’t imagine buying so much stuff and not even having a clue what the balance would be at the end of each month, it actually made me feel sick to my stomach for her.
I also loved the story of the power of Cait’s blog on her own spending and the crowd that started cheerleading for her debt payoff.
Clearly, Mo’ Money, Mo’ Houses is on the way to a really fascinating podcast, judging by her initial topics.
Jessica is also doing an awesome giveaway to coincide with her podcast launch this week. Check it out! You could win:
- One $100 Amazon gift card
- One $50 Amazon gift card
- One “Mo’ Money Mo’ Houses” bag from Bow & Drape (valued at $75 and totally unique!).
Damn, that’s an awesome summary of all my first 3 episodes! Thanks so much Mel! And thanks for supporting the launch, so glad you like my voice (I still cringe a bit, so weird hearing it but I’m getting better).

Ladies,
Being a financial blogger myself, but coming from the active trading arena, it is really refreshing to digest all your work. Way less ego involved, and much more fun and positivism.
I loved the podcast Jessica, and I loved your voice. There’s also absolutely zero background noise. Great work.
Thanks Mel for the round up.
Keep it up guys,
Cheers,
LT
