It seems like the most common voice you find in personal finance blogging is from middle class white folks, which is exactly what I am. My voice, and a lot of others, come from a place of just not knowing what to do but having the resources to do the things once we figure out the path.
There’s also a pretty big pool of upper class white folks blogging too. I know I read them from time to time, but for the most part, I don’t connect with a lot of what medical/lawyer/tech millionaires are talking about.
Back in 2013, I threw my hat into the blogging ring though because I noticed that freelancers who work in the arts was a very small group of bloggers. Back then, there were only about two others that I’d managed to find and none were stage managers/technicians. There was an actor and a videographer.
But finding that actress and videographer had a huge impact on me. I loved that I wasn’t totally alone. I loved the videographers budgeting advice and how she set things up more like goals. I commiserated with the actor’s stories of trying to live in an expensive town and make enough money while taking wildly underpaid acting gigs at times.
I find, as someone who enjoys reading blogs, that my goal is to read widely and take what I can use and leave the rest behind. The vast majority of personal finance bloggers seem to write from a place of trying to be genuinely helpful – even those millionaire docs and tech workers. Something helped them and in case it can help you, they want you to know about it.
I draw a lot of stage managers to this site, but stage managers come from all different backgrounds with all different challenges, so in case the only thing we have in common is stage management, I wanted to work on a list of bloggers who come from different walks of life and who live with a different set of challenges and priorities.
So here are some fabulous financial bloggers who come from different walks of life than me:

Hi Mel,
This is a great resource. I just wrote an article myself stressing the importance of finding a personal finance blog that resonates with you. There are so many different perspectives out there and it’s important to find one that fits your goals and values.
When it comes to personal finance, there are so many different backgrounds, and I think it’s great that you put together a list from a wide variety of bloggers to help people find the right match for them.
