Marley Spoon: Worth the Splurge?

Marley Spoon: Worth the Splurge? | brokeGIRLrich

Marley Spoon is Martha Stewart’s food kit subscription. That seemed a little bougie to me, so I put off selecting it for a while.

I was both intimidated by how difficult I thought her recipes would be and I also figured it would be one of the expensive kits.

I was pleasantly surprised on both counts.

The recipes are very easy to follow and it’s an affordable one.

There is a $100 off across 4 boxes offer and it’s weighted where the first box is $40 and the next 3 are $20 off.

You can cancel anytime, so you could just try the first box.

The minimum number of meals you can receive is two.

The meals we went with for kit included:

  • Creamy Chicken Florentine & Roasted Broccoli with Sauteed Mushrooms & Spinach
  • Harissa Grilled Salmon with Mediterranean Zucchini & Chickpea Salad
  • Coconut Tumeric Tilapia with Blistered Tomatoes & Rice
  • Bunny Chow Chicken Curry on Toasted Ciabatta
  • Freestyle Chicken Melt with Roasted Tomatoes, Broccoli & Carlic Toast
  • Miso Salmon & Mushrooms with Steamed Spinach & Jasmine Rice
  • Chicken Buddha Bowl with Quinoa & Spicy Peanut Sauce
  • Grilled Salmon & Tomato-Peach Salad with Creamy Feta

I would actually say this meal kit has the widest variety and most interesting recipes to select from. There were a lot of weeks where I liked a lot of recipes offered.

The Bunny Chow Chicken Curry is probably tied for my favorite recipe now with Hello Fresh’s Buffalo Chicken.

There is the ability to have the recipe selection feature only meats you picked, vegetarian options or healthy options.

The packaging was a little strange because each meal had a brown bag for main ingredients but only some ingredients would be in the bag and the rest would float freely in the box. There were no issues or explosions but I could see how there could be.

Without any discounts, you pay $47.96 for two meals with two servings each or $11.99 a meal and $8.99 for shipping.

With the discounts, the meals are $22.96 a box plus $8.99 for shipping., which breaks down to $5.74 without shipping or $7.99 per serving with shipping for 2 meals with 4 servings.

Again, it’s worth noting that to try just the first box, the discounted amount is $12.95, which includes shipping. That means that for 2 meals, with 4 servings, you’re paying $3.24 a serving.

You do need to supply some basics like oil, sugar, salt, butter, pepper, milk, which I’m never a huge fan of.

Cancelling was pretty simple. You click on My Account and Stop Subscription. You’ll receive a little survey asking why you left the service and that’s it.

I was really quite surprised. The Marley Spoon subscription box was one of my favorites. Definitely worth the splurge!
