Guys, I’m prepping for a summer of fun. The next six weeks are all semi-part, location independent work for me and I full plan to use that time to get a tan, catch up with friends and go on adventures.
Adventures add up quick though, so my plans also include trying to find the best prices for the things I want to do. I’m excited that I don’t have to watch every penny anymore, but that doesn’t mean I want to waste them either.
I’ve been working on a summer bucket list because one of the easiest ways to save money on anything is to just plan ahead. Stuff as simple as Googling an event or typing it into Living Social can cut down the price drastically.
Last year, my best friend and I did a really fun Viator walking tour of NYC because we both joke that we live so close (I was actually living in it) and we never do the “touristy” things. I think we take them a little for granted that they’ll always be there, but some of them are pretty pricey too.
Well. I can never say enough about city passes when I’m travelling, so I thought, “I bet NYC is on there.” I’ve always wanted to go to the top of the Empire State Building, but it’s crazy expensive.
Turns out I could definitely hack being a “tourist” in NYC (and if you go on the Smart Destinations website through eBates, you can save even more).
A few years ago, I used Go City cards in Oahu and we loved them. They had a lot of great options for us to choose from – all the big spots you want to hit and a variety of fun other things that we probably wouldn’t have done otherwise.
With that in mind, I pulled up the NYC options to see what I could do on a staycation and I was excited to see it included several must-see options that I just never had and a lot of other cool tour options.
My must-sees are the Empire State Building, Top of the Rock and a Circle Line Cruise. Some additional options that look pretty cool too are the Catacombs by Candlelight Tour, Hamilton Happy Hour Tour, Food on Foot Tours, Brooklyn Bridge Bike Tour, Radio City Stage Door Tour, and the 9/11 Museum.
How often do we overlook the cool things in the biggest city near home just because it’s always there?
I know I even overlook things in my own little city. I was shocked to recently learn we have a brewery and that the free events downtown all summer are actually pretty cool.
