Guys, being nearly blind can get expensive.
I’m usually all about the contacts (you can check out my latest contact lens faves over here), but recently a tragedy happened.
I dropped my laptop on my face while I was wearing my glasses.
Yeah, you read that right. It was as classy as you’re imagining.
I’ve been rocking a pair of glasses from Coastal.com for the last three years. They held up pretty well, were only $80 and I was able to get them shipped out to me in only a few days back during my circus train days. Back then, that also seemed pretty cheap. I usually got my eyeglasses at Lenscrafters and they would run me about twice that much.
Well, I checked out the site again thinking I’d snag another great deal only to find the deals really aren’t the best around – and since I’m a lot more financially savvy than I was at the beginning of my pf blogging journey, I shopped around.
And I threw out some requests into the ether to a few of the big brand discount eyeglasses online companies saying I was looking for a new pair of inexpensive glasses and if they actually rocked, I’d be happy to write them up, so, yes, this is a totally sponsored post.
But, like I said, that was only if they rocked.
Turns out GlassesShop.com Eyeglasses are solid.
The thing about buying glasses online is that I think you have to be a little go with the flow – or totally into one exact type of glasses that you can match the specs on and always make sure you get. I go with the flow though – my Coastal pair were cat eyes, which was a style I’d never worn before.
My specs totally remind me of the 80s big eyeglasses movement (appropriate since I’m working on FAME right now, right?). It’s been a while since I got new glasses, so adjusting to my newer, stronger prescription has been a lot of fun, but these glasses are definitely well made and comfortable.
Maybe you’re not down with the 80s look or cat eye glasses, that’s cool. They’ve got a really wide variety of frames. I was pretty impressed.
Most of all, they feel sturdy – like maybe they’ll hold up a little better next time I drop a laptop on my face.
The shipping time was reasonable – it was 10 days from when I ordered them until they arrived at my door.
The best thing about them though was that with frames and lenses they would’ve come out to $32.90. For an additional $10, I could’ve upgraded to thinner lenses –considering I usually just wear my glasses at night right before bed, I didn’t mind skipping.
They also have a great selection of prescription sunglasses you can choose from too.
Seriously, this company has some of the best eyeglass deals on the internet. If you need to replace your spectacles any time soon, make sure you check out GlassesShop Eyeglasses.
If you’re in the market not for some new specs, you can use the code GSHOT50 to get 50% off any eyeglasses or sunglasses with free lenses (excluding sale items).
Updated 4/25/17: I’ve been wearing these glasses pretty regularly for about half a year now and they’re still holding up fine. I do have to admit that there were a few days on tour when I was just too tired to bother with contacts, where, if I wore the glasses two or three days in a row, they could get a little uncomfortable on my ears – which never happened with my Coastal glasses or the more expensive Lencrafters ones either.
That being said, for the price, I’m still happy with them!
Will need to check this out. My last pair of glasses was close to $600 (progressives). I had vision insurance then, which helped, but don’t have that anymore. Thanks Mel!

Yep – $800 for mine last time (with progressives) and it is crazy without insurance. I see that ZJ wrote about having the pupil distance measured. I need to do that too.

I have not ventured into online glasses yet, because my face is really particular. I did make sure to get my pupil distance measurement when I got my last exam in case I had the spare cash to finally buy prescription sunglasses. Have not jumped yet, but I am tempted.

Years of staring at computer screens for 8+ hours a day have finally taken a toll on my eyes unfortunately. So I’ll be in the market for some glasses pretty soon. Good to know that I don’t have to pay an arm and a leg to get some decent glasses. I’ve never been a big “name brand” person. As long as the quality is good, that’s what matters to me. Thanks!

I really badly need new frames! I have paid way too much in the past because back then I never price compared! Thanks for these tips and I love your new glasses! 🙂

Thanks! And good luck with your new glasses!
I have glasses from Zenni Optical and they are great! I will never buy glasses at a real eyewear store again!
