Remote work and online jobs have become a lot more common over the past few years. While most office based jobs were, well, based in offices prior to the pandemic, the spread of Covid-19 and the implementation of work from home policies where possible meant that many of us got used to working from our own living spaces. Many people found it much preferable, cutting out the costs and time involved in commuting and parking, while many employers realised their teams could work just as productively without the employer having to pay for commercial premises and overheads. This means that many have opted to make remote work a permanent element of their lives. Of course, when this change is more permanent, you may want to consider what you can do to make yoru home better suited to supporting this lifestyle change. Here are some considerations that you might want to take into account for your own benefit.
Dedicated Work Space
First and foremost, if you’re working from home, you need to make sure that you have a dedicated work space. Working from bed or the sofa may seem comfortable, but in the long run, it’s not ideal. In terms of your health, working from a space where your body isn’t properly supported can result in issues with posture and back pain. It also isn’t great for productivity. Instead, try to create a workstation for yourself with a desk and ergonimically designed furniture or accessories to help!
Strong Wifi
Look into the strongest wifi connection available in your area. You’re going to be much more dependent on your internet working to a high standard on a day to day basis than before. If your internet fails, you could miss meetings, fall behind on your work and more. There are plenty of speed calculators out there that can help you to choose the best package for your needs.
An Intercom System
Chances are, your doorbell will ring throughout the day, but you don’t want to have to repeatedly get up and head to the door to see who it is while you are working. Instead, you could consider having an intercom system installed. This will allow you to check who’s at the door and answer questions or determine whether you need to head to the door before leaving your desk. If you have others who live with you who need to be let in and out regularly, an intercom system with door release could be a good investment too.
Boundaries
If you live with others, you will need to make sure that you have boundaries in place to ensure that you are left to work when you need to concentrate. Ensure people know when you’re busy and not to interrupt you.
If work from home is here to stay, hopefully, some of the information above will help you to make some informed decisions and changes to your home that will benefit you in the long run. Each can make a substantial difference to your day to day, so it’s more than worth considering each seriously!

Oh….never thought of an intercom system! First time I encounter the idea. When I was a kid, my dad use to have one and we would call him up for dinner through it. Anyway, good and short article on the topic.
