Profile
I am thirty two years old and I am the Production Stage Manager for the national tour of FAME. I make $700 per week and a $300 weekly stipend.
Saving & Spending
October wasn’t my most impressive spending month. I hit all my financial goals for the year! And I bought some extra stock! And then… money just started to disappear.
I decided that the bi-weekly contact thing is really not working for me while I’m on tour, so I bought a six month supply of dailies. I got sucked down the LuLaRoe hole when my best friend hosted a online sale.
I visited two colleges I’m considering for next year which cost a little – especially since one was in Oregon.
It was really the 10 day layoff from work where all this crazy spending happened. Other than that, I spent about $90 turning my hair into a rainbow.
And $80 getting a new tattoo.
For the most part, I still don’t spend much while working – since all we do is work and sleep. My wallet is happy the layoff is over.
Unfortunately, I also found out that all the work I was so excited to already have lined up over my December layoff fell through – so I’m back to trying to find at least some work to fill up 3 weeks off.
My spending breakdown this month:
- Gym – $10.70
- Food – $715.00
- Stage Management Expenses – $56.45
- Healthcare – $182
- Cosmetics/Shampoo/Etc – $63.62
- Car – $15.17
- Gifts – $5.99
- College Visits – $183.15
- Clothes – $109.86
- Contacts – $324.00
- Entertainment – $188.90
Total Spending in October – $1,854.84

Your balance sheet looks great! Not a bit of debt to your name is awesome. That must have been pretty stressful to be laid off for 10 days?
Your high food cost jumped out at me, but I’m guessing your in NYC so that makes sense. Nice work keeping spending quite low!

Actually, I live on the road. I work on a national tour – my cost of food was way higher than normal though- it usually comes in around $400. A lot of that was because I had an unusually high number of bar tabs last month (for me anyway), that I just lumped in under food. Maybe for November I’ll try to split it into it’s own budget line so I can be appropriately horrified at how much I’ve drank.
“Maybe for November I’ll try to split it into it’s own budget line so I can be appropriately horrified at how much I’ve drank.” LOL That’s pretty much why my expense tracking has such specific categories, to be appropriately horrified when I do occasionally go over. In fact, on our monthly budget check-in, my wife writes notes next to categories that are unusual, such as “idiot tax” next to the occasional ATM fee. I’m not sure that’s actually a deterrent, but it certainly can’t make the spending any worse.

HAHAHA. Your wife is amazing. I’ve been lucky my last few tours didn’t have heavy drinkers on them, but the entire crew on this one can put one away… which usually has a larger influence on me than it should.
Sometimes stuff just happens. The nice thing about having savings is that you can handle it.

Congrats on hitting all your financial goals! I think you deserve to spend a little on your hair etc to celebrate!

I hope you find something for those in-between weeks! Loving your hair. I’ve wanted galaxy hair for a couple years now, but my old day job/current side hustle is usually in pretty conservative settings so I have yet to pull the trigger. Kind of excited to see how the computer challenge goes!

I’m lucky that people don’t care too much about your hair behind the scenes in the arts, but I can also hide the rainbow pretty well in a pony tail or bun.
Oh wow – you are doing fabulouuuus! Thanks for being so open and honest. Your job sounds amazing too!
