Profile

I am thirty five years old and I am a Visiting Instructor of Theatre Arts/Production Management at a state university, where I make $26,418.51 for the semester. I also spent this month working as a production manager/stage manager for a Zoom production of The Yellow Wallpaper.

Spending & Saving

This was kind of an expensive month. I paid my car insurance, which is always a large hit, and then I signed up to take two Summer II Session accounting classes.

If it hadn’t been for those two expenses, it would’ve been a pretty inexpensive month. I did spend a little more on food than I usually try to. But also my rent is prorated since I move out of my apartment in three weeks.

I’m also happy that with the extra paycheck last month, I was able to cash flow the tuition and the car insurance payment rather than using my savings, since I did have some money saved up for both of those things. I’m still ready for my car insurance 2021 payment now and I have enough to take at least one class this fall, though I might tap some other savings and knock out a full semester.

I spent most of the month finishing up my work at the university, because my contact ends this month, and working on a Zoom production of The Yellow Wallpaper – I wrote a whole post about that experience that I’ll be publishing later in the week.

  • Tuition – $1583.00

Goals

  • Do two things to build up my stage management skills. Killed it. Obliterated this goal this year.
  • Spend more time with family and friends. This is the year of just tons of time to spend digitally with family and friends. It is so weird.
  • Max out my Roth IRADone.
  • Max out my HSA. I can’t max it out due to university health care, but that ends in August, so starting in September, when I go back on the Affordable Care Act coverage, I should be able to contribute again.
  • I made the macaroons.

    I made the macaroons.

Set aside $1,000 for my new car accountDone.

  • Invest $2,000Done.
  • Read more – not counting textbooks I have to read. Still currently rereading The Stand, but I also finished Since Strangling Isn’t An Options, Gwendy’s Button Box, and The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.
  • Learn to make macaroons. I MADE THE MACAROONS! THEY LOOK RIGHT. THEY TASTE RIGHT. I would say, I know how to make macaroons now. I need to keep working at it, but progress has been made.

  1. You made macarOns, from the Italian maccherone (yes, they’re actually Italian). MacarOOns are a coconut mound thing, similar recipe to a macaron but made exclusively with coconut instead of almond and nowhere near as pretty. Also, YOU FINALLY MADE MACARONS!
