5 Ways To Earn Money After An Injury At Work

Did you know that 340 million occupational accidents happen every year? Being injured can put a massive financial strain on you and your family, depriving you of the opportunity to work and earn. Not to mention that you may have to deal with costly medical treatments and debt from borrowing to stay afloat. Finding various ways to earn money while you recover can help improve your financial situation. So if you just suffered an injury at work, here are five ways to earn money while at home.

1. Temporary disability benefits

If you cannot work due to a workplace injury, you may be eligible for temporary disability benefits through your employer’s workers’ compensation insurance. These benefits provide a portion of your salary while you cannot remain at work, so keep this in mind. But if your injury is so severe that it leaves you on the treatment table for at least a year, you can apply for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits.

2. Private disability insurance

If you have private disability insurance through an individual policy or as a benefit through your employer, you may be eligible to receive benefits if you cannot work due to a workplace injury. However, you’ll need to put in a strong compensation claim to prove that your injury has impacted your ability to earn. It will also help if you prove that your injury has impacted your ability to perform daily chores at home and led to a loss of household services

3. Find out if you can join a vocational rehabilitation program

Some workers’ compensation programs offer vocational rehabilitation services, which can help you learn new skills or return to work in a different capacity if you cannot return to your previous job. So, check with your insurance provider or employer for more information.

4. Consider doing part-time or flexible work

If you can return to work but are unable to work full-time due to your injury, you may be able to find part-time or flexible work that accommodates your physical limitations. That could include telecommuting or freelance work, so keep this in mind. Other great options include Pet sitting or dog walking. If you can take care of pets, you can earn money by offering pet-sitting or dog-walking services. You can also consider doing odd jobs for neighbors, family, and friends. For example, you can babysit or do nanny work as long as it doesn’t affect your recovery.

5. Make money from personal belongings

If you own your home or have valuable possessions, you can earn from them in two ways.

First, you can make extra money by selling items you no longer need or use. Platforms such as eBay or Facebook Marketplace are great for selling personal belongings. Secondly, you can rent out a room on Airbnb. If you have a spare room in your home, consider renting it out on Airbnb to make something at the side. However, ensure that your property is in good condition to attract the right guests.
