4 Cool Midwestern Cities to Visit

Many people refer to the midwest as the “flyover states,” but that hardly does the area justice. Instead of just flying over, take a stop in one of these incredible cities on your next vacation and see why there’s so much to see in the center of the United States.

Cincinnati, Ohio

Cincinnati is known for many things, one of the best being the love locals put into their delicious chili. Seriously – if you’re not from the area, you may be shocked at how many chili-centric restaurants are in the Queen City (and I don’t just mean the Chili’s franchise). Each one is unique, so be sure you save room in your belly to try a few and pick your favorite!

For those looking for a unique thrill, Cincinnati is also home to some incredible spooky attractions. Some say the city is haunted, but you’ll have to be the judge of that. Take a ghost tour through one of the many locations said to be haunted, such as Music Hall or Washington Park and see for yourself if this city is truly the hub of paranormal activity many claim it to be.

Chicago, Illinois

When you think about tourist attractions in Chicago, your mind will likely go to “Cloud Gate,” the iconic public sculpture that many refer to as “the Bean,” located in Millenium Park. While this is a must-see on your trip to Chicago, the city is full of a ton of incredible art that should be appreciated. The Art Institute of Chicago is home to many famous pieces such as Water Lilies and American Gothic. Of course, no trip to Chicago would be complete without some of its famous cuisine. Be sure to save room for some deep-dish pizza and a Chicago-style hot dog. If you’re a sports fan, head over to Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, for a tour of this historical baseball park. This city is so captivating, you may find yourself searching for Chicago houses for sale so you can continue to explore this incredible area.

Indianapolis, Indiana

Of course, the thing we think of most in Indianapolis is the Indy 500, but this city is so much more than that. For those traveling with children, there is so much to do, such as the Indianapolis Zoo or the Children’s Museum, which is the largest of its kind in the world. If you’re a history buff, head over to War Memorial Plaza, home to more war memorials than any other place in the country, aside from Washington D.C.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

You may not think of the “coast” when you think of the midwest, but Milwaukee sits along Lake Michigan, which means gorgeous waterfront views across the city. For those who are into outdoor adventures, there are opportunities for canoeing, paddleboarding, and much more. If you’re visiting in the summertime, your trip wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Summerfest, a music festival which boasts itself as the largest in the world. If you’re looking to kick back and relax on your vacation, Milwaukee is the perfect place for craft beer, local cuisine, and a nice stroll through the Milwaukee Art Museum. There really is something here for everyone.
