Nursing isn’t usually considered a very flexible job because we often hear about the long hours that nurses work. But you do have the option of part time work as a nurse and there are plenty of different shifts available around the clock which means you can work with your employer to build a schedule that fits around the rest of the stuff you need to do that day. Being a family nurse practitioner is a great nursing position for busy people. It involves giving care to patients in their own home and helping them with their general day to day duties. You’ll spend a lot of time on the road between visits to different patients which gives you a great opportunity to run errands during the working day.

Certain sales jobs don’t offer any flexibility at all because you’ll be in the office 9 to 5 but if you land a job as a travelling salesperson it’s a different story. You don’t have any scheduled hours, it’s up to you to schedule meetings with clients and get out there to meet them during the day. Even if you’re doing 2 or 3 meetings a day, you’ll have plenty of time around those meetings to do the rest of your tasks for the day. That doesn’t mean that you’ll never have to do any work though, your employer will still want to see results but as long as you’re making a good amount of sales, you can work the hours that you like.

A teaching assistant is a great job for parents that are trying to fit work around their kids. The problem that you usually have is that you need to take the kids to school and pick them up etc. at the same time you should be starting work. The school holidays are a nightmare as well because you need somebody to take care of them while you’re at work during the day. You can easily solve all of those problems if you’re working at a school and have the same hours and holidays as the kids. Being an assistant is far more flexible than being a teacher because you don’t need to do all of the extra work outside of school hours like lesson planning and marking etc.

These are 3 great jobs that have flexible hours. When you’re trying to find flexible work it’s important to find the right jobs, but it’s equally important to find the right employer. Some employers are not concerned with making things easier for their employees and you’ll struggle to find flexible work with somebody like that. At interviews, always ask how they can help you fit work around the rest of your life and you’ll be able to find a good employer that will work with you.
