HAHAHAHA OMG I DID THIS!!

So… I don’t totally know what more to say about this.

During the pandemic, I sat down and wrote this sucker.

It’s called Jorge Steals a Kite, and it’s about a mischievous little man who lives in a jar, Benjamin Franklin and pirates.

He does have a mustache.

Jorge.

I can’t recall whether or not Ben Franklin did.

It came out to 111 pages.

I sent it to three friends who had middle grade reader aged kids to read to them.

One of those friends is a super avid reader and she also did an initial edit for me.

I took their notes and went back and edited the book.

Then I paid $400 for a proper editor to go through and give me some feedback.

She came back with the plot is good but the characters suck.

…she said this much nicer. But she was right. It echoed some of the concerns my friends had too. Two of the characters are a little too mean.

This also makes sense because I thought about the plot for like 20 years and when I sat down to write it, I was like… oh, I need to imagine some people to make this happen.

Anyway. I started applying to grad schools and working a bunch of jobs at the same time and I never went back and tried to fix the characters.

Maybe someday I will. I would kind of like to. I have an idea for a second book with Jorge that involves NASA and ninjas.

So this is not a long post but I am very grateful to nine years ago me who wrote I wanted to write a book rather than publish one because that would be a different story.
