Looking for something for your favorite stage manager for the holidays? Well, here are some cool items that won’t break the bank but will likely make their day.
This store is full of awesome shirts, cool pins, fun patches, clever stickers and, my personal favorites, snarky pencils (because, yes, everyone does steal my pencils).
I also really enjoy the You Can’t See Me t-shirt. Check it out –there’s sure to be something perfect for your stage manager.
Did you know you can gift a year long membership to the Stage Manager’s Association?
If you know a college or early career stage manager, this could be an awesome tool for them. It connects them to a wider network of stage managers, has job listings, shadowing opportunities, and other useful tools.
This site has the freaking cutest stage management stickers I’ve ever seen. They are super affordable and come in mini and full sizes. Besides stage management stickers, there are several wardrobe and carpentry themed ones too.
I have several of these stickers stuck on my laptop right now.
If the stage manager in question is female, this little shop has ridiculously cute stage manager stickers that can be personalized to look a little like your stage manager.
It’s also a super frugal option.
Survived Tech Week, Only Cried One Pin
Another frugal option, this hilarious pin is a little too close to home sometimes. But at least it will remind your SM that we’ve all been there sometimes.
If your stage manager doesn’t already own one, what SM doesn’t want their own stage manager duck? Ready to call the show and take some notes, this duck knows where its at.
If you’re buying for a new stage manager who doesn’t have their own SM kit, you can make the big purchase for them and then direct them to this great article about how to stock a stage management kit on a budget.
Or you can just buy them a cool pencil bag, if you’re team We-Shouldn’t-Have-To-Supply-Stuff, which is a legit team, but a debate for another time.
So normally, most theaters aren’t going to splurge on glow tape dots for your SM. They’ll have to sit there and cut little strips off of a roll of glow tape to make their set safe. So this functional gift makes their life a little easier.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of practical gifts that help save me some time.
As people who haul a lot of crap useful items around, a tote bag is always appreciated. This Etsy shop has an adorable Hamilton tote bag.
If Hamilton isn’t your thing, some other cute ones include Mamma Mia, Matilda, and Wicked.
If you have a little extra to spend on your stage manager, try to figure out if they own a multi-tool yet. I’m team Leatherman, but there are some crazy folks out there who prefer Gerbers. If you really pressed me, I would say they are both fine companies and just pick whichever one you can find on sale – Gerber tools are usually cheaper.
While this is a little bit of a stereotype, an awful lot of SMs are genuinely fueled by coffee. There are a billion coffees of the month websites out there, but Atlas Coffee Club has a fairly reasonable subscription model that lets you pick 3,6 or 12 months. So give the gift that just keeps on giving, to both the SM and anyone who comes in contact with them.
