What if there was a Groupon for the performing arts?

Turns out there is. It’s clearly still pretty small and picking up steam, but the idea is pretty awesome and I’m excited to start advocating it now, with the hopes it’ll continue to grow.

ACTOR Q has deals geared towards artist’s – from discounted headshots to business card to fitness classes.

Some of the deals are a little strange… neon dog collar? Camera lens coffee mug (to be fair, the entertainment industry is fueled by caffeine)?

But quite a few are awesome and really useful. They’ve really got some good deals on useful books like Get Funding for Any Project, free singing tips video and different discount workshops (which I gather are a big deal to performers – where are your deals on stage management classes, ACTOR Q, huh? Partner up with the SMA, why dontcha?).

As opposed to the onslaught of deals you get from established sites like Groupon or LivingSocial, ACTOR Q is still starting up and as such offers a much more limited variety, but I think it has potential to be a great resource for performers and backstage folks alike.

Workshops, Scripts, Headshots, Etc.

On the flip side, if you do offer a service that could be useful to performers and were wondering how to tap into that market, ACTOR Q could help you get the word out, if you’re willing to offer a discount on, say… financial planning? Website design? Fitness classes?

I’ll be interested to see what this website turns into.

Are you a performer or work backstage? Do you have any other tips for hidden spots to check on work related discounts?
